Assessing and Improving Child Health

Children's Health, the Nation's Wealth: Assessing and improving child health is a new report from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science. Ruth E.K. Stein of the Department of Pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine served as a co-chair of the Committee on evaluation of Children's Health, the group that authored the report. MCHB has developed a comprehensive strategic plan.
The goals of the MCH Training Program are as follows:

  • Assure a workforce that possesses the knowledge, skills,
    and attitudes to meet unique MCH population needs;
  • Prepare and support a diverse MCH workforce that is
    culturally competent and family centered;
  • Improve practice through interdisciplinary training in MCH;
  • Develop effective MCH leaders;
  • Generate, translate, and integrate new knowledge to enhance MCH training,
    inform policy, and improve health outcomes; and
  • Develop broad-based support for MCH training


New Website: Developmental Screening for Health Care Providers

The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has launched a new web site entitled Developmental Screening for Health Care Providers. This outstanding resource will support primary care clinicians to meet the best practices and family needs for developmental screening for young children.
